1. HOOK: Engaging portion of hook-and-eye assembly, consisting of bill and base.
a) Bill: top part of hook above base.
b) Tip of bill: Portion farthest away from neck.
c) Middle wire: center portion of bill.
d) Neck: rounded part of bill.
e) Base: loops underneath bill.
f) Shoulder of base: part which is tack stitched to tape.
g) Hump: raised part which prevents accidental disengagement of eye.
2. FOLD: method of turning tape back on itself.
3. FRONT OF TAPE: visible surface when tape is placed on flat surface with hooks showing and bills pointing toward observer.
4. BACK OF TAPE: reverse side of tape.
5. TOP EDGE: edge of tape behind necks of bills.
6. BOTTOM EDGE: edge of tape toward which bills are pointing.
7. FLANGE: distance between top edge and edge of cover.
8. COVER (or “FRONT”): part of the tape covering base of hook.
9. WIDTH OF COVER: measurement from fold under hook to bottom edge of cover.
10. OVER-ALL WIDTH OF TAPE: distance from top edge to bottom edge.
11. SEWING LINE: horizontal stitches running parallel with edge of tape.
12. TACK STITCHES: stitches used to fasten hooks to tape, perpendicular to sewing line.
13. SEWING MARGIN: distance between sewing line and edge of top crease of sewn tape.
14. UNIT: grouping of hooks for each garment(pattern is the specific location of hooks within a unit).
16. SKIP SPACING: distance between one group of hooks from a given point on one hook to the same point on adjacent hook in the next group, measured at the tack stitch.
17. SPACING: distance between adjacent hooks from a given point on one hook to the same point on another hook in the same unit, measured at the tack stitch.
